1st Kiel Reggae & Soul Weekender 2008

Der erste Kiel Reggae & Soul Weekender hat vom 19. bis 20. September 2008 stattgefunden und bestand aus einem Reggae Nighter am Freitag und einem Soul Nighter am Samstag.

"Die Idee zu einem Weekender kam uns auf dem Riverside Stomp Festival in Mainz. Es stand bereits ein Reggae Nighter anlässlich unseres Geburtstages fest und wird neben Early Reggae, Jamacia Ska und Rock Steady auch Northern Soul, Modern Soul und R&B geboten. Der jamaikanische Part findet am Freitag den 19.9.2008 im Weltruf statt. Das Weltruf ist ein angesagter Club im coolen Schiffslook, welcher für ein unvergleichbares Ambiente sorgt. Eingeladen ist ein internationales Line Up, DJs, die wir im laufe der Zeit auf Reisen und Nightern kennengelernt haben. Am Samstag findet der Soul Part des Weekenders statt. Im Edgar's, einer Cocktail Bar mit Restaurant, die direkt am Wasser liegt, legen internationale DJs auf, die wir Dank einiger bekannter Soulies erfolgreich an die Förde lotsen konnten. Der Eintritt beträgt pro Abend 5€. Inspirieren lassen haben wir uns von Veranstaltungen wie dem Kings and Queens Weekender in Hamburg."

Reggae Revolt (Bern, Switzerland)

Mr Reggae Revolt ist eine treibende Kraft der Schweizer Reggaeszene, er steckt all seine Energie in großartige Nighter in Bern (z.B.die Hot Hot Vision Nighter Reihe) und hatte Gastauftritte in London und Tokio und legt jetzt zum ersten Mal in Deutschland auf!

Ace Fabse (Oberhausen)

For Ace Fabse it's the second time in Kiel. As a good friend of the Reggae Twins he selected at the Midnight Sunshine Nighter in february 2008. He's a very young DJ (19) as well, but started many events in his hometown so far. Together with some friends he founded Cable Street Beat Oberhausen and was a welcomed guest at the 'Reduit' in Mainz for several times. He started to collect records in 2005.

The Reggae Twins are the hosts of the 1st Kiel reggae and Soul Weekender and several other events relating Jamaican music in Kiel. They started to collect vinyl some years ago and try to capture their hometown with Boss Sounds.

Saturday 20.9.2008 Soul Allnighter

Sebastian Gerstung (Mainz)

S. Gerstung first came in touch with Northern Soul Music in 1998, his brother light the fire and after a little while he visited his first Northern Soul Allnighter: The 'Soul Super Bowl' in Duesseldorf Benrath in Germany 1998. Due to his new discovered love for soul music he started to collect Rare Soul 45's in 1999. He started spinning records in Mainz and Wiesbaden in 2000 and until today he was invited to events in Frankfurt, Leipzig and Bern (CH), He runs the reggae & soul allnighter in Mainz with top notch dj's from Europe.

Ralf Mehnert (Hamburg)

In 1986 a mini mod danced rather bad than good at Olaf Ott's and Leif Nüske's Christmas 'Soul Allnighter' at the Kir/Hamburg and bought his first Kent and Soul Supply compilations. At this point Ralf Mehnert could not know that his romantic teenage relationship would turn into a love affair lasting for more than twenty years now. He followed his first DJ appearance at the Kiel Scooterrun with sets at various scooter runs and allnighters all over Germany as well as at the 'Cleethorpes Soul Weekender' and the 'These Old Shoes Niter' in London. Until 2003 Ralf regularly played the 'Turnin' Your Heartbeat Up' Weekender in Nuernberg. In 2006 he and The Jan decided to finally kick off the first Hamburg Soul Weekender.

Raffu Young

Raffu Young discovered his love for soul music about a year ago and started to collect records straight away. As the right hand man of Thomas Schlatter he co promoted the Bern Soulweekender in January 2008. Another young-gun who is just in love with soul music!
